Distortion is character. In fact everything we call character, is the deviation from perfection. So, perfection to me is characterlessness. Brian Eno (music producer)

This quote struck me because I’m someone who has real perfectionist tendencies. My whole life I’ve always been drawn to the clean, pristine, rigid, straight edges of life. I think that explains my affinity for software and technology. The computer is a beautiful execution of raw logic, inputs and outputs. A “pure” function in computer science is one where the output will always be the same if you continually give it the same input. This to me is the antithesis of art, or what I’m learning now is another way to look at life. Art is interesting to me because it can never be perfect, there’s no such thing. What is the “pure function” equivalent of art? There is none.

Well… maybe a rubber stamp.
